STATEMENT FROM THE GREATER ACCRA YMCA REGIONAL PRESIDENT TO HERALD THE 4TH BIENNIAL YOUTH BREAKFAST MEETING
Peace be with you all,
(Your response will be: and with you)
Throughout the YMCA, from its
smallest unit to the summit at Geneva there has become the need to grow,
strengthen and to make our movement relevant more than ever before. Plans are
far advanced at the Greater Accra Region to aggressively champion this course
and to make the Greater Accra Y as robust as expected as a noble member of the
World Urban Network.
To this effect I am excited that
the young people of our movement have also picked the signal and are taking
great steps towards achieving our universal aspirations. The Youth breakfast
meeting slated for tomorrow the 8th of December 2018 at Sebrepo on
the theme Youth Empowerment 4 Good is a manifestation of the many steps the
leadership of the Region has taken to awake the sleeping giant.
I have been extensively briefed
about the activities of the breakfast meeting and I am excited about this
particular meeting because of its ownership. Of how our young people will be at
the centre stage to take care of activities of the meeting which among other
things will have our Change Agent Cedric facilitating a session on the theme. I
am truly excited because we are walking our talk and living our values by
giving young people the tool, space and the platform to discover themselves and
to aid the process of transforming their community.
It is revealing that the Tema
YMCA is using the occasion to bring about 400 kids together for a funfair, an
opportunity to play, learn and interact is a would be nostalgia that these kids
will be thankful for and it speaks volume of what it means when we say we are
creating safe space for young people.
This particular breakfast meeting
will end with an election where we shall usher into office a new crop of youth
leaders for the Region, it is truly a moment I am yearning for, to experience
that new breath of a new beginning and to welcome the fresh energy of a
committed set of volunteers who are conscious of the burden placed on them.
I wish to end with a sharp focus
on what today represents for us as Ghanaians. The recognition and celebration
of our cherish farmers. Farmers Day is one of those National Celebrations that
is not characterized with ambiguity especially because we are an agrarian
economy and the sector has supported the majority of our people but
unfortunately strong statistical evidence points to the fact that the Service
and Industry sector has over taken Agriculture. At this point no one needs to point out that
there is an urgent need to give oxygen to the sector, the Greater Accra YMCA
response with insight from the Columbus Ohio YMCA is for individuals and
families to cultivate backyard garden. This step is the beginning of a process
of appreciating the unending sacrifices of our farmers and to appreciate the
weight of their contribution whilst addressing an SDG concern, to end hunger.
I wish to seize this opportunity to appreciate the toil of the Regional Director Mr Reginald Ffoulkes Crabbe and the youth working committee for their unwavering contribution to the Y and the determination to improve on affairs.

I encourage all in our movement
in the region, youth and adults to participate in the breakfast meeting or at
least follow development, I wish to see the best candidates elected for the
various positions and Happy Farmers Day Celebration to us all.
